But since it’s a visual search engine, it’s more than just a search engine.
When done correctly, Pinterest is a great place to post content to reach a wider audience that will click to your site and sign up for your email list and/or buy from you.
You can use Pinterest to promote new blog posts, products or even free email opt ins.
Most Pinterest users are performing non-branded searches. Meaning, they’re looking for something, but they don’t know who has it.
This is an incredible opportunity for you to showcase your content and services.
How To Get Traffic from Pinterest?
In addition to the importance of how often to post on Pinterest, a few other factors will help you to get traffic from Pinterest.
Getting traffic from Pinterest is not about hacking a system or the Pinterest algorithm.
There are 3 keys to Pinterest success – creating high quality content, creating great Pins and posting to the right places to find your target audience.
#1 Create visually appealing Pins relevant to your content
It’s not about tricking a user to click on your Pin to go to your site.
You want to be sure your Pin accurately and beautifully describes what your content is about.
Canva is a great, free program where you can create Pin designs. You’ll want to include a few key items in your Pin to get more pin clicks:
- Keywords / Pinterest SEO – keywords are how readers find you. If your content is about a gluten free cookie, make sure the keyword “gluten free cookie” is included in your Pin image (via text overlays), title and description. A good rule of thumb is to use the same keyword you are targeting in SEO.
- Great picture(s) – make sure your Pin includes a high resolution photo or photos from your blog post, or a highly relevant stock photo that conveys exactly what the reader will get when they click from your Pin.
- Great Pin design – many content creators use and love Canva for creating Pinterest posts because they have great templates. Make sure your fonts look nice and are easy to read. Optimal Pin size is a 2:3 aspect ratio and 1,000 x 1,500 pixels , but feel free to vary a bit form that and see what resonates with your audience.
#2 Add Pins to the correct Pinterest boards
You want to make sure you’re pinning to relevant, keyword optimized boards.
For example, I wouldn’t post a gluten free cookie Pin to a Legal Templates Pinterest board.
Make sure your board has a description that clearly states what content can be found there and only post Pins to that board that fit the description.
You can even create new boards if you don’t find a relevant board to pin to.

How Long Does it Take to Get Noticed on Pinterest?
How long it takes to get noticed, and start getting website traffic from Pinterest will depend on many factors, including your Pinterest marketing strategy, it takes about 2-3 months to start seeing significant impressions, saves and website clicks.
If you have a lot of blog content and you have never posted to Pinterest before, it happens a little faster.
And you could start seeing some results after a month of consistency.
Pin new URLs first and focus on seasonal content.
How Often to Post on Pinterest in 2024?
A consistent pinning schedule will be the number one factor in any strategy.
The amount of Pins per day will boil down to how many you can do consistently and not going overboard and getting your new account flagged as spam by Pinterest.
From many education resources, personal experience and listening to various Pinterest experts, 10-15 Pinterest Pins per day is the sweet spot for many, but not every Pinterest account.
Pinterest guidelines state that pinning weekly is a good general rule of thumb to follow.
I agree with this BUT if you want faster growth, multiple times a day is best. Again, this depends on what is doable for you and how much content you have.
Someone who has hundreds of blog posts, products and lead magnets can have a higher posting frequency since they have more content to direct to.
It can be seen as spammy to post the same URL over and over, without varying.
When to Post to Pinterest
A user typically uses the Pinterest platform to save ideas for later.
Often a Pin won’t pick up a lot of traffic for a month or two after being saved.
You want to start saving Pins a month or two before the content becomes seasonally relevant.
For example, in Early November, I would start saving Pins relevant to Christmas.
While the specific days and times you post to Pinterest don’t matter too much, posting when people are typically looking for things on Pinterest can be a great way to get a boost to your Pin early so Pinterest sees your Pin as helpful.
If you use a Pinterest scheduler, like Tailwind, to schedule out your Pins, they offer time suggestions for the best time of day, which are usually pretty accurate.
Tailwind will tell you the right time based on your time zone so you can create a good posting schedule.
Coschedule analyzed millions of accounts to gather engagement data and came up with the best times to post to Pinterest.
Here’s what they found:
Best days: Friday, Tuesday Thursday
Best times: 12pm, 6:17pm and 8:02pm
Coschedule suggests posting in that time frame in your time zone. You can try it and adjust the times based on how your account is performing.
Can You Pin too Much on Pinterest?
You can save too many Pins to Pinterest.
While Pinterest allows you up to 2,000 boards and 200,000 Pins, you want to be careful you aren’t Pinning too much per day and getting marked as spam.
You can get your account shutdown.
It generally takes a large amount of pins per day to get marked as spam or shutdown.
You aren’t really getting into that “danger zone” unless you’re saving more than 15 Pins per day or posting to the same URL over and over.
If you’re worried about saving too many Pins, start slow, don’t save more than 15 Pins per day. Make sure you’re saving as much fresh content as possible, and not over using the same URL.

1. Keywords
Keywords are what helps your audience find you. Make sure your text overlay in your Pin, your Pinterest title and description all include relevant keywords.
2. Optimize your Pinterest account
Make sure you have a Pinterest business account set up and your website is verified.
Your Pinterest bio should include a description of what you do and what you post about with keywords.
Think about what a user would type in to find you and include those words in complete sentences in your bio description.
3. Optimize your Pinterest boards
Create Pinterest boards based on what content you blog about.
For example, my Pinterest account includes boards like Business Tips, Blogging Tools and Legal Tips for Bloggers to name a few.
You also want to include keywords in your board descriptions to make it clear to users (and Pinterest) what content is included in those boards. Then only Pin relevant content to those boards.
4. Post new content regularly
Post new content to your blog regularly so you can save multiple Pins per day.
You don’t want to Pin the same URL over and over or your account can be flagged as spam.
5. Create or purchase a few Beautiful Pin templates
Spend some time in Canva or Photoshop creating 5-10 templates that you can reuse.
Many creators also sell great Pinterest templates.
You can save them and change out the pictures and text for all your Pins.

Use a scheduler to schedule out your Pins so you aren’t manually saving Pins all day long, every day.
Pinterest has a scheduler that’s free, but a little limited on functionality.
You can also use a scheduler like Tailwind, which is approved by Pinterest and has more features (including scheduling to Instagram).
This way, you can create your content calendar easily and schedule your pins in advance (even for the whole year). This saves you valuable time.
7. Look at your Pinterest Analytics
Pop into your analytics dashboard once a month and see what’s working and what isn’t.
It’s the best way to see where your hard work is paying off.
You’d want to look at the key metrics such as how many clicks you got per pin so that you can continuously improve the quality of your content and pins.
8. Take a Pinterest course

Should you pin other creators’ content?
It’s best to Pin your own content since you are trying to grow your audience, but if you are starting a brand new Pinterest account and need content to add to your boards, it’s okay to Pin content from other Pinners.
Just make sure you aren’t saving any Pins that will be competing with your content.
How do I know what seasonal content to post?
Make a list of the holidays, or use a holiday calendar.
Mark the holidays you post holiday specific content for.
For example, a food blogger may have a ton of recipes for Thanksgiving. So they would want to be sure their Thanksgiving Pins are circulating for Thanksgiving.

So adding a hashtag doesn’t do anything and could possibly be seen as keyword stuffing.
What happened to Idea Pins?
Idea pins are now regular pins, meaning all the features (links, videos, images) are now combined and available to all pinners.
So you have access to the editing tools whether you’re creating a Pin with images or videos or both.

Pinterest is a powerful tool that you should use in your business.

If it’s only feasible to schedule one new pin a week, do that.
Start slow. Start with 1 new pin and 4 re-pins if you need to. Or if you’re new, 1-5 new pins a day. And don’t save Pins that direct to the same URL over and over. Make sure you’re Pinning to a variety of content. You don’t want to get marked as spam.
Review your Pin performance by checking analytics once a month to see how it’s going. See what people are clicking on, saving and adjust your tactics if needed.
