Pick one or two YouTube marketing strategies from this list to get started!
1. Create a YouTube Channel for Business
Before you upload your videos, make sure to create a YouTube Brand Account.
Go to your YouTube channel’s page. If you have never created a YouTube channel previously, you will only see your account. If you already have an existing brand channel, you will see it as well. To make a new brand channel, select Create a new channel.
You will need to learn before uploading the videos on your channel. Add your brand icon on the top right of the screen and choose Your channel.
The recommended image size is 800 x 800. This one is a little tricky because the image doesn’t always fit properly at the top but once you are done, it will look something like this- by the way, feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel here if you haven’t already 🙂

2. Learn About Your Audience
Your YouTube channel has a lot of stats to enhance your channel.
You can see quantitative experiences on your channel, your audience’s behavior, counting your views, checks, frequently observing time, incomes produced, and interaction rates of videos.
YouTube Analytics contains tons of valuable information about your subscribers.
Simply go to the YouTube Studio and click on Analytics to see how your YouTube channel is performing overall.
This information will help you identify your target audience and confirm whether you are reaching the right kind of people with your YouTube channel.
Tracking your audience analytics is key to succeed. If your thoughts about your subscribers are confirmed, you are reaching the perfect audience.
If you are not then you know to adjust your content strategy to reach the audience you want.
This is where spending time reviewing your YouTube analytics becomes valuable to tweak your marketing strategies accordingly.
3. Do Competitor Research
Competitive analysis is fundamental if you want to get ahead of other businesses in your niche on YouTube.
Find your competitors on YouTube and create a note of their videos that got the least and most views.
Observe these videos to get a sense of what kind of things your audience likes and wants. Peruse the comments on those videos too to learn how your audience is reacting.
Studying your competitors on YouTube can give you insight into content creation strategies. You can then curate content to reach your audience.
It will also help show you where your videos are lacking and how you can improve your titles, description, thumbnails, etc.
Use These Two YouTube SEO Tools
Make sure to get into the habit of using one or both of these YouTube SEO tools:
4. Optimize Your Videos for SEO
The ultimate goal is to get likes for your YouTube videos as well as comments and subscribers.
You should optimize your content as per your audiences’ interests. If you need to get the most value of your content, use proper keywords in your content.
Just like blog posts you write, you need to conduct keyword research and optimize your YouTube videos for SEO.

Everything starting from your video title, description, tags, category, thumbnail, subtitles are all important to rank your videos higher in YouTube and then on Google.
So as part of your YouTube marketing strategy, include the keywords you want to target in the title by using the search feature on YouTube. Including the exact keywords, people are searching for will obviously increase clicks to your video.
YouTube Video Titles
For your YouTube video title, keep it less than 60 characters so it doesn’t get cut off on the search page.
Make sure your title is clear and solves a problem or answers a question.
After you have done your keyword research on the title, make sure to include the most important keywords at the beginning of the title.
YouTube Video Description
Your video description only shows like 100 characters and for the rest, the viewers have to click to read more. So you should maximize those 100 characters and include the most important things in that section such as your call to actions and so forth.
It should also include a short explanation of your related video topic.
It also helps to include a generic video description that you will use in your YouTube videos including your website link, most popular videos, social media channels, etc.
Here are some essential tips to keep in mind about your YouTube video description:
- 5000 characters maximum
- Add keywords and use them in the title and description
- Create a different playlist on your channel
- Add hashtags in your video as relevant
Tags
Tags are where you will list all your keywords (main and related keywords) that you are using for the video. It helps increase your reach.
A good looking catchy thumbnail is one of the most important parts of your YouTube video marketing.
It should be related to your videos and YouTube also automatically generates a thumbnail for you but that’s usually not that good.
You can create your own custom thumbnail, which will help your content stand out.
Here are some essential tips about YouTube thumbnails:
- YouTube thumbnail size is 1280 pixels
- YouTube thumbnail dimensions are 16:9
- Thumbnail images should be under 2MB.
- Image formats are JPG, GIF, or PNG.
6. Upload and schedule your videos
Making good content is the best marketing strategy. Another strategy is posting your content at the perfect time.
As a platform, YouTube is almost as famous as television. And your subscribers will treat your YouTube channel like a TV station!
Make a schedule for your subscribers so they know when to expect your videos. Posting videos in the afternoon on a weekend and evenings during the weekdays works great. Be professional and make sure to post your YouTube videos on a regular basis.
You can create your own schedule that works best for you as long as you are consistent.
You can batch create your videos for the month and this way, you don’t have to worry about getting in front of the camera every week! After all, making videos is a production and does require a lot of energy and time.
If you need some amazing on-camera tips then check out this post.
7. Try working with an influencer
One of the leading ways to showcase your products on YouTube is by working with an influencer.
According to Google, 60% of YouTube subscribers believe and listen to their favorite influencers.
That’s a lot!
Think about which influencers you can reach out to and collaborate with. This is a great way for your YouTube channel to gain exposure and get in front of a new audience!
When it comes to these brand associations, let the influencer do the talking. The more control you attempt to apply over the association, the more you will affect the influencer’s brand. It should be a win-win YouTube marketing strategy for both the influencer and you for it to work successfully.
8. Be consistent with your YouTube videos
As mentioned above, consistency is the key to grow your YouTube channel. Post regularly and create your schedule. The most successful YouTubers post every couple of days or at least once a week.
This is important because you want your audience to know what to expect from your YouTube channel.
Now you may be wondering what kind of YouTube videos should I can create to stay consistent with my channel?
Here are some ideas for you –
- Customer Testimonials – showcase a video of your customer loving your products or services like here.
- Product review videos – these are great to show someone how to use the product and what you thought about it (see example here)
- Interview others on your YouTube channel (see example here)
- Videos that solve a problem for your audience
- Behind the scenes videos are very popular where your target audience gets a glimpse of your life and business
- Video Blogs – you could even turn your blog posts into video blogs and learn more about them in this post!
You get the point! There are so many creative ways to build your audience and create different kinds of videos regularly.
9. Encourage call to action (CTA)
Encourage people to leave comments on your videos, ask questions, and have them click to watch your next YouTube video at the end.
Start using end screens and YouTube cards in your videos to link to other videos.
If you don’t know, YouTube cards are small rectangular notifications that pop up in the top right-hand corner of your videos.
End screens are also a valuable tool. They allow you to encourage a call to action at the end of the video where you can link to your most popular video or another related video. This keeps your audience longer on your YouTube channel.
10. Optimizing YouTube Videos for Voice Search
Optimize your YouTube videos for the voice search feature so that your video shows up in the results.
Often, people use YouTube’s voice search feature to quickly find videos instead of typing out the video topics.
The voice search feature is an easy, hassle-free way to get YouTube video results rapidly, so you need to make sure your videos display before your audience.
For this, you’d want to make sure your SEO keywords are in the YouTube video title and follow all the other requirements for SEO we discussed above!
11. YouTube Ads
Another YouTube marketing strategy you can explore is YouTube advertising. You can have your videos or products displayed in front of a new audience using YouTube ads.
The good news is that with YouTube ads, you only pay when someone engaged with your video. If someone skips your ads and doesn’t watch it then you won’t be charged for it. This is called a cost per view advertising model (CPV).
There are different kinds of YouTube ads and here are the most common ones –
1. TrueView Ads
We talked about this one above where you only pay if someone engaged with your ad and watches your ad for at least 30 seconds or takes any other action on it.
2. Video Discovery Ads (Previously Named In-Display Ads)
Video discovery YouTube ads appear on the YouTube homepage, search results pages, and as related videos on YouTube video watch pages.
3. Preroll Ads
Have you seen some ads that are not skippable? These are known as Preroll ads, and they can be 15 to 20 seconds in duration.
4. Bumper Ads
These ads are very short (just 6 seconds long), and they appear before a viewer’s chosen video.
You don’t have to use YouTube ads to succeed on YouTube, but it doesn’t hurt to learn more about them because they are quite popular and a great video marketing strategy to grow your business.

How long into starting your blog did you wait until adding YouTube? I actually started managing the YouTube account for my employer not long ago, and have wondered often if my wife and I should utilize YouTube in our own blog. I think for now we aren’t going to include YouTube, but maybe will down the road after we get going and have built up some content and traffic. I’m thinking managing my employer YouTube account will help me learn and give me the skills in using the platform before applying it to my own.
For me, it was a year into my blog that I started adding YouTube. My primary focus is still my blog and not YouTube but eventually I’d like to shift my focus more on videos!
I have been thinking about branching into Youtube for quite some time and this was the push I needed. I had no idea it could be so beneficial!
Glad this post helped you, Lyssa!
